Final Mill Pond Work Day is Saturday 25th October

Thankfully, we're not moving stone this time - just chalk.

Starting at 10am, this is to put the finishing touches to the new marginal shelf.

Volunteers armed with wheelbarrows, buckets and shovels will be needed again.

With luck we'll be done in an hour and a half (famous last words).

This will be the last work day this year, because we aren't allowed to work in the river beyond the start of November (fish spawning).

Next March, when the water level has fallen after the winter, we'll plant up the new marginal shelf using plant species from the opposite and nearby banks to aid colonisation.

Some plant colonisation is already taking place though, only a couple of weeks after the basic structure was put in place. This is encouraging.
