The Definitive Statement and Definitive Map

by Figheldean Webmaster at 19:24 22/05/14 (Rights of Way)
The definitive statement and definitive map are the official documents that describe and show the routes of all the public rights of way.
This includes footpaths, bridleways, BOAT ("Byway Open to All Traffic"), CRB ("CartRoad/Bridleway") and CRF ("CartRoad/Footpath") the latter two of which are also known as RUPPs ("Road used as Public Path"). These RUPPs are in the process of being re-signposted as Restricted Byways under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.

The latest copy of the definitive statement is attached to this article for you to download.

Also attached is a document from Natural England about definitive maps and the procedures involved in changing a public right of way. The document was initially prepared by the Countryside Agency.

The definitive map itself is subject to Ordnance Survey copyright restrictions and so can't be made available online, but Amesbury Library has paper copies which can be inspected. Also, Wiltshire Council has a website showing the rights of way throughout the county.

If you have Google Earth, you can download a .kmz file from this page which shows all of the rights of way in the Parish, or you can view them on a Google Map.
